Lower Moncure Rd Resident Arrested for Drugs

Billy Jordauche Gray, 33, of 524 Lower Moncure Road, Sanford, NC, was arrested on 3-24-2010 for trafficking Opium, driving while license revoked and possession of drug paraphernalia after being stopped by Lee County Deputies on Trade Street in Sanford. Gray was transported to the Lee County Jail and placed under $200,000.00 secured bond. Gray was also wanted by Moore County Probation officers for absconding from probation.

Sanford Man Pleads Guilty to Killing His Father and Bradley Way


Kevin Lance Key, 27, of 521 Key Road in Sanford pleaded guilty Monday to killing a Lee County boy almost six years ago and his own father in late 2008.

He'll receive two life sentences for the July 12, 2004, beating death of 11-year-old Bradley Way and the Oct. 12, 2008, shooting death of 54-year-old Eddie Leroy Key.

The Sheriff sends his condolences to all that were involved in this case.

Update on Use of Force Complaint

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office was notified by District Attorney Susan Doyle that the SBI had completed their investigation where a deputy shot a man at Lot 61 Dreamland MHP Sanford 12/9/09. Deputies responded to that residence after a man had called 911 threatening suicide. Gilmer Escobar (28) of that residence was shot by Sgt. Ronnie Bass after Escobar pointed a gun at Sgt. Bass. The gun was later found to a toy gun. Bass was cleared by the SBI and the District Attorney of any criminal charges and the report stated Bass’ force was “both reasonable and warranted”.

On 3-4-2010, members of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division and members of the Sanford Police Departments Tactical Narcotics Team executed a search warrant at 242 Stroud Street and arrested Gregory Wayne Baker, 33, of the home for Trafficking Opium, Possession with intent to sell a Schedule IV controlled substance, Possession with Intent to sell Cocaine, Possession with Intent to sell Marijuana, maintaining a dwelling to store drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia. Agents seized approximately 25 grams of Cocaine, 631 grams of Marijuana, 83 dosage units of Methadone, 53 dosage units of Xanax and $5,664.00 in US currency. Baker was placed in the Lee County Jail under $500,000.00 secured bond.
