McPherson Rd Man Shot and Kill; Man Charged

8/15/2016 @ 2:08 PM the Lee County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call at 828 McPherson Rd. in Lee County in reference to a fight in progress involving two men. Before deputies arrived on scene the Lee County Sheriff’s Office received a second call from 828 McPherson Rd. that a man had been shot in the chest.

Upon deputies arrival they found Cody Lee Wilder of 828 McPherson Rd. Sanford inside the residence and had suffered a single gunshot wound to the chest. Wilder was pronounced deceased on scene by Central Carolina EMS.

Also on scene was Jason Vann Wayne Godfrey (34) of 828 McPherson Rd. Godfrey reported he and Wilder had been involved in a fight which escalated into him (Godfrey) retrieving a pistol. Godfrey reported he and Wilder struggled over the weapon and he discharged the weapon striking Wilder in the chest.

Godfrey was charged with Murder and was held under no bond in the Lee County Jail.
