On Wednesday
October 25th, 2017 Lee County Sheriff’s narcotics agents responded
to 152 Pickard Road, Sanford at the request of the NC Probation and Parole. NC
probation and parole were in the process of a home visit, and located what they
believed to be components of methamphetamine manufacturing. Lee County
Sheriff’s Office Narcotics agents secured the scene.
Lee County Sheriff’s
Office Narcotics Division has a certified clandestine laboratory safety officer
certified through the North Carolina State Bureau Of Investigations, who was
able to confirm that the components located was an active methamphetamine
laboratory. At this point the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigations
Clandestine Laboratory team was notified of the active lab. Lee County agents
applied for a search warrant for the property, along with a destruction order,
which was issued by a Superior court judge and with the aid of the NC SBI
agents were able to process, collect and contain all potentially dangerous
materials.
Lee County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics agents arrested Aaron Taylor
Moore age 24 of 152 Pickard Road Sanford. Moore was charged with 3 counts of
felony possession of precursors with the intent to manufacture methamphetamine,
1 count of felony manufacture methamphetamine, 1 count of felony possession of
methamphetamine, 1 count of felony maintaining a dwelling place for keeping or
sales of an illegal controlled substance, and 1 count of misdemeanor possession
of drug paraphernalia. Moore was jailed under a $20,000.00 secured bond.
Lee
County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics agents were also able to determine that a
female on scene had initially given NC Probation and Parole agents and Lee
County Sheriff’s Narcotics agents’ false information was entered wanted as a
felony probation absconder. Sarah Elaine Smith, age 25 with no current residence
at the time of arrest was charged with identity theft by giving agents the name
of “Carla Smith” with the intent to
avoid legal consequences and 1 count felony absconding. Smith was jailed under
$15,000.00 secured bond.
On Thursday October 26th Lee County Sheriff’s
Office Narcotics agents were also able to determine by searching the NPLEX
database that Sara Smith was involved in the manufacturing methamphetamine
process by purchasing Pseudoephedrine at Walgreens located at 1956 South Horner
Boulevard, Sanford. NPLEX is the National Precursor Log Exchange, which shares
all Pseudoephedrine sales nationwide with doctors, pharmacist, and law
enforcement. Smith was charged with additional charges of possession with the
intent to distribute an immediate precursor chemical that would be used in the
methamphetamine manufacturing process, and 1 count of felony conspiracy to
manufacture methamphetamine. Smith received an additional $15,000.00.
