Stay Alert

Recently my department was alerted of several incidents that occurred in Sanford where female shoppers leaving businesses were being approached by ladies inviting them to bible studies.  These incidents happened at both Walmart and Riverbirch shopping centers.

Not that this particular act is unusual in our area, it has been "suspected" in other parts of the country as a door to human and sex trafficking.  Women are "lured" to an event deemed as a bible study to find themselves held hostage.  The common reference being used on the internet is the "God our Mother" church and others.  Most legit organizations will have literature or handouts with contact information on it.

Please note that these allegations appear to be unfounded by law enforcement.

It's always best to use your gut instinct and remember that there are safety in numbers and to call 9-1-1 if you feel threatened or feel that something you're witnessing needs to be investigated by a law enforcement officer.  Take pictures of suspicious people and or vehicles that could be involved. Never follow or leave with a stranger to attend any event.  When in doubt, call 9-1-1.  You can always call back and cancel the response before the officer arrives if deemed needed.

Be Safe
