As promised in the past election, Sheriff Carter will make a considerable dent in the drug problem in Lee County and on April 10, 2007, he once again delivered! Lee County drug agents arrested two people after seizing 105 pounds of marijuana in a Tuesday morning raid. Agents with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit executed a search warrant around 11 a.m. Tuesday at 3223 Hawkins Ave. (just north of the intersection with U.S. 1). Fred Thomas Heck Jr., 35, is owner of the home. At the scene, deputies found 105 pounds of marijuana valued at $245,000, about an ounce of cocaine valued at $ 6,500, an assault rifle, a shotgun and more than $8,000 in cash. Heck was arrested and charged with trafficking marijuana, trafficking cocaine, maintaining a dwelling for controlled substances, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
