Halloween Hooch Found Off Henley Road


Steven Anthony Sloan, 37, of 246 Pyrant Road, Sanford, was arrested and charged with Trafficking Marijuana, Manufacturing Marijuana, Possession with intent to sell and deliver Marijuana, maintaining a dwelling to store drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia after the Sheriffs drug agents executed a search warrant at his home and discovered growing and processed Marijuana weighing nearly 13 pounds. He was placed in the Lee County Jail under $75,000.00 secured bond.

Joint Agency Effort Nets Armed Robbery Suspects


Three teenagers have been charged in connection with two armed robber­ies since Thursday. City police and Lee County sheriff’s depu­ties both filed charges of armed robbery and first-degree kidnapping Friday against Tony Maurice Mc Lean, 17, of 878 Douglas Farm Road, Christian Emanuel Morales, 16, of 8495 Sheriff Watson Road and Travis Lamar Williams, 18, of Kannapolis.
The group is alleged to have committed two robberies, one at Sunnybrook Drive around 4:30 a.m. Thursday and another at Judy Ann Lane around the same time Friday morning. Both robberies were allegedly committed against women outside their homes. The suspects were picked up by a Chatham County sheriff’s deputy Friday on U.S. 421 after surrounding agencies were given a description of the suspects’ vehicle.
All three suspects were placed in the Lee County Jail under $250,000 secured bond each.

Another Cocaine Bust for LCSO

Monday, October 22, 2007, agents from the LCSO Drug Task Force arrested two Hispanic males at 3409 Evers Drive (Carr Creek), Sanford. Apolinar Penaranda Lopez, 37, of Randleman, NC and Adan Morales Jimenez, 21, of Charlotte, NC were both charged with trafficking cocaine (2 counts on Lopez), conspiracy to traffic cocaine, maintaining a vehicle to store drugs, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Both suspects were booked into the Lee County jail (Lopez is under $700,000.00 secured bond and Jimenez is under $400,000.00.) The agents seized 1168 grams of cocaine which is 1 kilo plus six ounces (approx). They also seized 500 grams of cocaine from Lopez two months ago in an undercover operation in which he was not charged at the time due to an ongoing and deeper investigation, however he was charged with that crime yesterday. The street value of the drugs seized yesterday are $233,000.00. The 500 grams seized 2 months ago are worth $100,000.00.

"We're Still Waiting Says Sheriff Carter"

Within sixty days of Sheriff Carter being elected in 2006, he announced he would pursue the "ICE" program offered by the U.S. Office of Immigrations and Customs Enforcement.
