A Sanford woman was unharmed Thursday morning after police thwarted an alleged attempt to kidnap her from a local drug store parking lot. Sanford Police Department charged Tyrone Markeys Griffin, 18, of 224 Stroud St., in Sanford with first-degree kidnapping and robbery of Dawn Wagner.An observer, who police declined to identify, was stopped at the intersection of Horner Boulevard and Bragg Street and saw Wagner being forced into her SUV at knifepoint around 8 a.m. in the parking lot of nearby Walgreen's Pharmacy.The person called 911, and police were able to apprehend the vehicle quickly, Capt. David Smith said."We were able to get on Horner Boulevard and detain the vehicle within a mile," Smith said. "She was just real shook up and upset."Smith said Wagner reported that Griffin made threats to her while in the vehicle.The incident happened after Wagner was leaving the drugstore, police reports state. Wagner could not be reached Friday. Griffin was jailed with a $100,000 bond.
