Please Welcome The 2008 Employee of the Year!

Pete West, the 2008 Employee of the Year is an exceptional employee. The Employee of the Month nomination form stated that this employee demonstrates excellent leadership qualities and is highly competent in their job. It was also noted that this employee handles business in a professional manner in a very demanding job.

This employee’s manner has a way of calming any situation as was evident when this employee displayed great courage, a positive attitude and remained calm during an incident in which they did everything possible to preserve the life of an individual under their care. On June 26, 2008, this employee was making their rounds when they found an unconscious and unresponsive inmate. Upon entering the dorm area and assessing the situation, they determined that the inmate could possibly be in cardiac arrest and sprung into action notifying staff to call EMS while he performed CPR until they arrived. This incident underscores this employee’s reputation as a professional who routinely goes above and beyond what his job requires. As stated in his nomination, "this employee’s leadership and teamwork skills are demonstrated daily by the way his shift handles the everyday stress of working in a jail environment. His shift remains calm no matter what happens within the jail.”

This employee has two sons and is known among his family, friends and colleagues as a big man with a big heart. He has worked for Lee County for almost 10 years and is employed with the Sheriff’s Dept. as a Sergeant in the Lee County Jail.
