On Friday night, June 18, 2010, Neil Miller, 71 of 4613 Carbonton Rd. Sanford called the Lee County Sheriff Office at approximately 11:30PM and reported someone was walking around his home. Miller remained on the phone with dispatchers and then reported someone began to bang on his front door. Miller reported when the person on his porch spoke he realized the voice was his son, Ricky Dean Miller. Neil Miller reported his son was saying if he didn’t open the door he was going to kill him. Neil Miller reported his son kicked a panel out of the door trying to gain entry into the home. Neil Miller reported he was in fear of his life and retrieved a shot gun and fired a shot through a hole in the door striking Ricky once in the chest.
The father, Neil Miller reported his son Ricky had come to stay with him approximately 5 months ago after he was released from prison in Virginia. Neil Miller reported his son had been estranged from the home for approximately a week and had not seen him since until tonight.
Ricky Dean Miller (48) W/M of 4613 Carbonton Rd. Sanford will undergo an autopsy at UNC. The investigation is ongoing.
