11/21/2010 At approximately 10:40 PM an Amtrak train operator notified the Lee County Sheriff’s Office that the train he was operating had struck a man that jumped in front of the train just south of the intersection of Greenwood Rd. The man was deceased when emergency personnel arrived on scene. The case is being ruled as an apparent suicide. The victim (William Shoemaker, age 24, of Lee County man, recently moved to Lee County from Vermont and resided near the scene.
