Citizens Patrol Academy

The Sheriff's Citizens Patrol (SCP) was initiated by Sheriff Tracy Carter to give citizens of Lee County a better understanding of the day-to-day operations of his department. This ten-week course gives citizens an in-depth look and hands on training into the career of law enforcement at the sheriff's office. Citizens are instructed by deputies on the subject of patrol, jail, communications, investigations, court, and community policing.

The SCP is an 10-week program, in which courses are held once per week from 6:00 p.m. until approximately 10:00 p.m. Each week a new topic is introduced and discussed. Citizens will also have the opportunity to ride along with a patrol deputy, work with jail deputies and communication officers. This enables them to observe first hand how the sheriff's office handles incidents.

Participants must be 18 years of age or older, have no felony or serious misdemeanor convictions and must be a resident or business owner in Lee County.

There is no cost for participants and each student who successfully completes the academy will take part in graduation.
The training will commence in the Summer of 2013 (dates to be announced later) for the first twenty qualified applicants. Further information can be obtained by contacting Dana Elliott at selliott@leecountync.gov

Applications are available in the lobby of the Sheriff's Office and can be completed onsite. Once completed, you can either drop them off with the on-duty Dispatcher or you can mail it to Dana Elliott, LCSO, 1401 Elm St. Sanford, NC 27330. Once the desired number of approved applications are received, participants will be notified. Future applications received will be placed on a list for the next academy and will be contacted at that time.
