Sheriff Tracy Carter said in the five years he's worked with 35-year-old Thomas, the deputy has proven to be honest, dependable, loyal, likable and hard-working. Those traits, Carter continued, have served Thomas as he followed his father's footsteps into law enforcement — first working for the Chatham County Sheriff's Office before moving up the ranks in Lee County from patrol officer to sergeant to detective. "Chuck's just an all-around good guy," the sheriff said.
