Female Arrested For Fraud

On 7/18/2012, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office begun its annual calendar campaign, in which The Law Enforcement Journal, on behalf of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, solicits local businesses to advertise on the 2013 Lee County Sheriff’s Office calendar. The Law Enforcement Journal contacted The Piggly Wiggly, located in Sanford NC, asking this business to advertise on the 2013 calendar. Employees of the Piggly Wiggly stated the store, on 7/2/2012, already provided money in reference to the 2013 calendar. The Law Enforcement Journal contacted the sheriff’s office in reference to possible fraud at the Piggly Wiggly. Investigators determined that a female subject, identifying herself as a representative of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, fraudulently received money from the Piggly Wiggly. The investigation also revealed this female fraudulently received money from three other businesses, Cameron’s Body Shop, Kimbrell’s Furniture and Jones Printing Company, all located in Sanford NC. After receiving information about the female, she was positively identified as Amy Lynn Bailey Pearce, 32, of Smithfield. Warrants, four counts of Obtaining Property by False Pretense, were secured on Amy Pearce. She was arrested by the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office on 7/20/2012 and placed in the Johnston County jail under a $15,000 secured bond. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office encourages any business, in any county, who has had dealings with persons representing themselves as being affiliated with “The Law Enforcement Post,” “Fire and Rescue News,” or “The Veterans Forum of the United States of America” to contact their local law enforcement agency in reference to possible fraud.
