Knock Knock....

Did you know that most break-ins occur during the day time between the hours
of 10am and 3pm and 65% of burglaries occur between 6am and 6pm?   Most burglars do not want to risk encountering someone so they will try your home when you're most likely to be at work.

With this said, I wanted to share a few words of wisdom to help protect you, your loved ones and your property. When the criminal element is on the prowl, the first thought is to test and see if someone is at home. They’ll ring the bell or knock, and if no one responds, their “process” starts.  This process can include going to the rear of your home to check for unsecured doors or something easy to steal.

My advice is DON’T BE SILENT. Respond firmly from behind the locked door. “WE aren’t interested!”  or "How can WE help you?", implying more than one person is home. Trust your instincts… and please be safe.
  • If the person refuses to leave after being asked to, or becomes irate, call 911.
  • Do not believe stories such as “I live in your neighborhood”, or “My car is broken down just around the corner.” If you don’t recognize this person as one of your neighbors, they’re probably not. If their car is truly broken down, offer to call 911 for them.
  • At no time should you let any of these people in your house! Not even to use the phone.
Bottom line, do not open the door for strangers and call 9-1-1 if you feel you could be in danger or if you see someone suspicious around you home or a neighbor’s home.
If you live inside the city limits, here is a link to the city ordinance for door to door solicitors.
