Man Arrested on School Grounds With Drugs Following Foot Chase


On Monday morning February 19th, 2018 a Lee County Sheriff’s Office school resource Deputy found a man later identified as Andre Miquiel Jones asleep in a vehicle on the school grounds prior to school opening. Deputies approached Jones who was asleep in a vehicle that was running and after numerous attempts to wake Jones by tapping on the window, Jones was awakened.

Deputies stated that Jones appeared to be confused and under the influence of an impairing substance. Jones was asked to step out of the vehicle. Once out of the vehicle Deputies attempted to identify Jones, but experienced difficulties with that due to Jones not having any identification on him, and Jones was having a hard time communicating due to impairment. Jones told deputies that his identification was in the car. Deputies observed Jones drop something and then kick what was dropped under a patrol vehicle. Deputies said that it was a small clear plastic bag containing a white in color unknown substance. Deputies at this time attempted to detain Jones by handcuffing, but Jones fled on foot. Jones was apprehended after a short foot chase. Deputies requested Lee County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics agents to respond and assist. It was then that deputies determined that Jones was in possession of approximately 1.3 grams of powder form Cocaine and one dosage unit of Oxycodone.

Andre Miquiel Jones, age 38, of 1604 Prosperity Drive Sanford, was processed and charged with one count of possession with the intent to sell and deliver Cocaine, one count of possession of a schedule II controlled substance (Oxycodone), one count of felony maintain a vehicle as a storage place for the use and sells of an illegal controlled substance, one count of felony possession of a controlled substance within 1000ft of a school, one count of misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

Jones was jailed under a $10,000.00 secured bond.
