Gun Safety

On July 1st, 2018 the Lee County Sheriff’s Office received a report of property damage.  Upon further investigation, it was determined that a rifle projectile had entered and struck the victim’s A/C unit, destroying it.  This A/C unit was located in the rear of a residence which is used as a children’s play area.  As you can imagine, this situation could have had much more serious consequences if a child had been playing in the area.

It was determined that the projectile was fired from a rifle in a field located behind 1702 Sheriff Watson Rd. near Harley Ln. It is not believe that this was an intentional act.

It is legal for the citizens of Lee County to discharge a firearm in the unincorporated areas of the County.  However, it must be done in safe manner as to protect all lives and property. We asked all of our citizens to be mindful of what is around and behind the area where you discharge your weapons.

If anyone has any information regarding the above incident, please contact the Lee County Sheriff’s Office at 919-718-4563 X 5622
