On Monday night, July 29, 2019, Lee County Sheriff’s Office uniform deputies were conducting a driver’s license check-point on Broadway Road at the intersection of Woodland Trails Road. At approximately 11:00 pm a dark red color Honda Accord approached the check-point and stopped. As deputies approached the vehicle, the distinct and overwhelming odor of marijuana was coming from the vehicle. When deputies questioned the driver, Talyke Minor, age 19, of 56 Roxbury Court, Sanford, about the possibilities of being in possession of a controlled substance, Minor rolled up the window and sped away. Deputies gave chase, following Minor at a high rate of speed, reaching speeds of 120 mph. Not long after the chase began, Minor lost control of the vehicle on Avents Ferry Road near Sloan Road and spun out in a soybean field. When the vehicle came to rest, Minor fled the scene on foot. Deputies searched the area until Minor was found hiding near some bushes.
In the course of the search for Minor, deputies located a black book bag that contained approximately 107 grams of marijuana, and a bundle of money, approximately $2800.00, that Minor attempted to hide in a wooded area. Lee County Sheriff’s Office narcotics agents responded to assist uniform deputies. Talyke Minor was transported to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office for processing.
Talyke Minor was charged with one count of felony flee/elude arrest, one count of possession with the intent to sell and deliver marijuana, one count of felony maintaining a motor vehicle for the purpose of storing and selling a controlled substance, and one count of misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. Minor was jailed under a $20,000.00 secured bond.
