Lee County deputies were called to assist Apex and Cary units as they pursued a 38 -year-old man and his 19-year-old nephew early Thursday after a chase through Wake and Chatham counties.
It was reported that Cary police officers spotted a Budget Rental truck behind Wal-Mart on Kildaire Farm Road around 12:30 a.m. When they tried to stop the truck, the driver took off.
Apex police took over the chase on U.S. Highway 1 South, and speeds reached about 85 miles per hour, authorities said. Stop sticks were deployed by Lt. David McKee near the intersection of US1 and 15-501 exit (Northview). The two men in the truck – Ricky McCoy Jacobs and his nephew, D'Andre K. Jacobs – jumped out and ran, but authorities quickly captured them. No one was hurt.
Authorities say the men stole wooden pallets from Wal-Mart. D'Andre Jacobs was charged with two counts of felony larceny and resisting, delaying and obstructing a public officer. Bond was set at $6,000. Ricky Jacobs' charges were not immediately available.
