Two Men Arrested During Traffic Stop on US1

On Wednesday, January 15, 2020, Lee County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics agents arrested Andrew Duane Trump, age 43, of 136 Bunny Trail, Sanford, and Robin Leonard Whitt Jr., age 30, of 699 Kentrywood Farm Road, Sanford.

Agents initiated a traffic stop of the vehicle operated by Andrew Trump on US highway #1 southbound at or near the US 421 exit of US #1. Agents had positively identified the passenger Robin Whitt Jr. and confirmed that Whitt had two outstanding orders for arrest. Trump refused to stop and for a short time attempted to elude agents by pulling off the shoulder of the highway and as agents pulled over both in front and behind Trump, Trump tried to re-enter the outside lane of travel to continue and struck an agents vehicle. Shortly after making contact with the agents vehicle Trump was stopped approximately one tenth of a mile south of the Spring Lane exit. At this time both Andrew Trump and Robin Whitt Jr. were removed from the vehicle and placed in custody. Both Trump and Whitt were transported to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office for processing.

Andrew Trump was processed and charged with one count of felony assault with a deadly weapon on a government official, one count of failing to heed blue lights and siren, and one count of attempting to flee and elude arrest. Trump was jailed under a $50,000.00 secured bond.

Robin Leonard Whitt Jr., was processed for the two outstanding orders for arrest and jailed under a $51,500.00. Soon after being place into the custody of the Lee County Jail, agents were contacted and asked to respond back to the jail. During a search of Whitt’s articles of clothing and body, Lee County Jail staff had discovered that Whitt was in possession of approximately 7 grams of crystal methamphetamine. Agents processed and charged Robin Whitt Jr. with one count of felony possession with the intent to sell and deliver crystal methamphetamine, one count of felony possessing a controlled substance in a jail facility, and one count of misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. Robin Whitt Jr. was jailed under an additional $25,000.00 secured bond.
