Army helicopters and law enforcement vehicles were busy in Lee County Wednesday searching for patches of green marijuana plants. The search was part of a marijuana eradication operation that included members of the Sanford and Broadway police departments, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, the State Bureau of Investigation and the North Carolina Army National Guard. An SBI plane also covered the area. Despite the lack of marijuana plants for drug agents to seize, the Sheriff's office drug agents did manage to locate a group of young people who pulled off the road and were found with a small amount of marijuana in their vehicles. This is just the first of many flights to come throughout Lee County.
