Hooked on Fishing Not On Drugs

The Boys and Girls Club of Sanford has implemented a program through Future Fisherman Foundation titled "Hooked on Fishing Not On Drugs" (HOFNOD). Youth at the Sanford club had the opportunity to go on fishing trips with three deputies from the Lee County Sheriff's Office.

The Sheriff and his staff recoginize the importance of positive hobbies like fishing to help occupy the youths time and provide a healthy escape from problems.

Community support is very strong for the program as well. Eight volunteers have participated thus far. A local eye doctor donated $1,000 worth of sunglasses. The Sanford Herald had a representative at one of the fishing outings and provided front page sports section coverage. Chat-Lee Marine has donated two john boats for the program and four local pond owners have offered their property for use during the program.

If you are interested in participating in anyway, please contact the Boys and Girls Club via the link above.
