Sheriff's Forcast: A "White Christmas"


Lee County Sheriff’s deputies seized at least three kilograms of cocaine and arrested a Sanford man Thursday eve­ning. Fidel Salgado Ortega, 27, of 109-A Robbins St. was charged with trafficking cocaine and maintaining a dwelling for drugs after Lee deputies raided his house around 4:30 p.m. Thursday. During the raid, the drug team found at least three — maybe as many as five kilograms of powder cocaine, roughly a pound of marijuana and three firearms. Ortega and a second suspect were at the house at the time of the raid but a sec­ond suspect was able to elude the team, Capt. John Holly of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit said, how­ever, deputies know the identity of the suspect and are actively seeking him. Sheriff Tracy Carter said the bust puts a dent in the cocaine supply for Lee County.“These guys were some major distributors of cocaine in this area,” he said.
