FRAUD ALERT - Paving Company

The Sheriff’s Office has received several complaints of a paving company going door to door soliciting citizens to pave their drive ways. They will tell them they are paving a driveway in the area and have extra asphalt left over and will pave their drive way at an extraordinary low price. The one catch is the job must be done immediately while they’re in the area with the extra asphalt.

Citizens should beware. The Sheriff urges everyone to obtain an estimate from a legitimate area business and obtain estimates from several businesses. The Sheriff also reminds anyone having this type of work that state law provides a 3 day “right to cancel” on door to door purchases, thus allowing a cool down period before the work is to be performed.

Lee County also has a County Ordinance governing door to door peddling, requiring them to obtain a peddlers permit with the Sheriff 30 days prior to peddling door to door. Feel free to ask to see a permit if approached.

Anyone coming in contact with anyone operating in Lee County not abiding by these provisions is urged to call the Sheriff’s Office immediately.
