Robbery Suspect Arrested After Two Armed Robberies

·         3/8/2014              The clerk at The Value Mart 4971 Edwards Rd. Sanford reported a man entered the business at approximately 7:20 PM w/ blue ski mask covering his face, wearing a camouflaged jacket and brandishing a shotgun. The clerk reported the suspect demanded money from the register. The clerk complied with the orders and the suspect fled on foot. 

·         3/9/2014              The clerk at the Short Stop #6 at 3901 Hawkins Ave. Sanford NC reported a man entered the business at approximately 8:53 PM wearing a stocking over his face, camouflaged jacket and brandishing a shotgun.  The suspect demanded money from the register and the clerk complied. The suspect ran from the scene on foot.

3/10/2014            Roger Wayne Hawkins (42) W/M of 129 Mount Sands Ln, Olivia NC was arrested for (2 cts) of robbery w/ a dangerous weapon, (2 cts) of possession of a firearm by felon and (2 cts) possession of stolen goods for robbing The Value Mart at 4971 Edwards Rd. Sanford on 3/8/2014 and robbing the Short Stop #6 at 3901 Hawkins Ave. Sanford on 3/9/2013.

No information is being released on what led investigators to Hawkins due to the investigations are ongoing at this time.

Hawkins was also charged w/ larceny of a firearm and possession of a firearm by felon for stealing a .22 revolver from Howard Kelly on 11/26/2013.

Hawkins was held under a total of $250,000 bond.
