"Badges for Baseball" Let's Play Ball!

On Monday, August 11, local children teamed up with Lee County Sheriff and Emergency Management personnel for a special community outreach project.

The Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation helps to build character and teach critical life lessons to disadvantaged young people living in America’s most distressed communities through baseball- and softball-themed programs.

Teams were assembled from Lee county public safety as well as the Boys and Girls Club and parents, where a softball game was held!

The program, "Badges for Baseball", was created in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Justice as a juvenile crime prevention initiative. It’s a simple concept: pair cops and kids together to play and learn. It works to enhance the relationship between law enforcement and kids in underserved communities across the country using baseball as the hook.
