LCSO Youth Academy 2015

I’ve always said stronger communities are safer communities, and these young people are a very important part of Lee County. We want to do all we can to make a better future for them.

Last Friday marked the final day of this year’s academy, which I implemented in 2007. We had 66 young men and women attend this year. I hope to break the 100 mark next Summer.

This academy allows local kids to step into the shoes of a deputy and get to know the men and women behind the badges. It gave them a chance to tour the North Carolina Highway Patrol Training Center in Raleigh, dust for fingerprints at a mock crime scene, attend a firearms safety/awareness workshop and enjoy a day of fishing, hamburgers and hot dogs with school resource officers and other members of the sheriff’s office at the Lee County Wildlife Club.

Events such as this, which are free of charge, helps deputies bond with those they serve.  It's just another way to reach the young and form partnerships and relationships with them.

I want to personally thank the following individuals and organizations for their involvement:
