Home Invasion Case Closed - Arrests Made

Sheriff’s deputies have charged four people — including one man who is currently in custody on charges of murder — in connection with a December armed robbery that left a Broadway-area couple with serious head injuries.

Sarah Capps Sloan, 19, of 222 Temple Ave., George Oliver Johnson, 19, of 224 Talley Ave. and Brandon Currie, 22, of 1502 Winslow Drive have each been charged with first-degree burglary and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury. Deputies also arrested a fourth suspect, Billy Joe Headen Jr.
The arrests stem from an armed home invasion on Dec. 7, 2006 at 250 Avent’s Ferry Road, the home of Auburn and Mary Griffin. Deputies responded to the home around 11:15 p.m. that night and found both the Griffins suffering from head wounds sustained during a robbery. The Griffins told deputies they answered a knock on the door and found a young woman at the door. At that point, they said, two men rushed into the home and demanded money before beating the couple with baseball bats and then leaving. Of the four suspects in custody, one is also awaiting trial on murder charges.
