Two County Joint Operation Leads to Success


A joint operation and investigation by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division and the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office Drug Unit led to the arrest of one person and the seizure of Cocaine and Marijuana. On 4-29-2010 members of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division stopped suspect Michael Antonio Petty, 31, of 1705 Campbell Street in Sanford, on NC 42 neat the Chatham County Line as part of an ongoing narcotics investigation by the Lee and Chatham County Sheriff’s Office. At the time of the stop by Lee County agents, members of the Chatham County Drug Unit executed a search warrant at a mobile home rented by Petty on Wilson Road in Chatham County. Lee County agents seized 5 grams of powder Cocaine and 357 grams of Marijuana from the car while Chatham County agents seized 580 grams of Marijuana and 763 grams of Powder Cocaine from the home on Wilson Road. The estimated potential street value of the seized drugs is $158,566.00. Petty was transported to the Lee County Jail and charged with possession with intent to sell Marijuana, felony possession of Cocaine, maintaining a vehicle to store drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was placed under $25,000.00 secured bond and was then transferred to Chatham County where he was charged with Trafficking Cocaine, possession with intent to sell Cocaine, possession with intent to sell Marijuana, maintaining a dwelling to store drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was placed in the Chatham County Jail under an additional $135,000.00 secured bond.
