The Lee County Sheriff's Office is alerting residents about a computer scam that seemingly targets citizens in an attempt to gain access to their computers to steal personal information.
This particular scam starts off by someone calling you to advise you that you have a computer virus and if you allow them remote access to your computer, they can resolve the issue.
In the past, individuals claim to be from Microsoft or Dell. Please know that neither one of these companies has the ability to detect a virus on your home computer and secondly, they will never call you regarding a virus.
If you are contacted by such a person, obtain a name and call back number for them and then contact our department for us to investigate.
