At approximately 7:50 AM the Lee County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by a motorist who reported seeing several while males bringing property out of the woods on White Hill Rd. The caller described the men to be in a white Ford Mustang. A deputy on patrol in the area located the vehicle on Center Church Rd and attempted to stop the vehicle. After a brief vehicle chase the vehicle stopped in the parking lot of the Family Dollar on US #1 and 3 white males fled the scene on foot. All 3 suspects were apprehended by deputies after approximately an hour long search. Investigation revealed 2 buildings located at 2722 White Hill Rd. owned by Sheriff Normal had been broken into overnight, which was in close proximity to where the suspects were seen taking the property out of the woods. Norman reported over $10,000 worth of power tools and a utility vehicle stolen. All property was recovered.
John Charles Thomas Jr. (38) of 305 S. Seventh St. Sanford, Scotty Ray Thomas (20) of 1605 Goldsboro Ave. Sanford NC, Kyle Scott Downey (24) 1605 Goldsboro Ave. Sanford NC was taken into custody. All 3 men were charged with Breaking and entering, felonious larceny and possession of stolen goods, conspiracy to commit breaking and entering and felony speeding to elude arrest; all three were held under $30,000 secured bond.
