Wilder Lane Couple Arrested For Drugs
James Herbert Wilder, 47, and Sally Meadows Wilder, 47, of 64 Wilder Lane, Sanford, NC, were arrested and charged with manufacturing Marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia after county drug agents seized 9 Marijuana plants from behind their home. Sally Meadows was also charged with possession of a schedule II controlled substance. Both were released under $5000.00 unsecured bond.
Marijuana Field Seized

Deputies with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office and members of the Broadway Police Department discovered a Marijuana plot off of Buckhorn Road near the Bradley Road intersection.
Deputies and officers have had the field under surveillance for nearly two months before moving to seize the field on 6-23-2009. At the same time, other agents executed a search warrant at the home of a suspect located at 148 Thomas Kelly Road. As a result of the investigation, agents seized 253 Marijuana plants with a potential street value of $607,200. In addition to the field located outside, a substantial amount of marijuana plants were also located in the home.
Tracy Neal Thomas ,45, of 148 Thomas Kelly Road, Sanford, was arrested and charged with Trafficking Marijuana, possession with intent to sell and deliver, maintaining a dwelling to keep/ store drugs and possession drug paraphernalia. He was placed in the Lee County Jail under $75,000.00 secured bond.
The Sheriff would like to personally thank the Broadway Police Department, the NC SHP for the use of their helo, Lee County Fire Marshall’s Office, NC State Revenue Agents, and the SBI for their assistance.
** The suspect in this case was arrested on similar charges in 2007 and was convicted of Manufacturing Marijuana. He received a probationary sentence.**
Lemon Springs Armed Robbery Being Investigated

Investigators are looking into an armed robbery that occured in Lemon Springs Friday night.
The victim, Josh Sistare of Sanford, told officers he was in a vehicle with three friends at the intersection of Edwards Road and Greenwood Road around 7 p.m. when a black male approached the vehicle, produced a firearm and demanded Sistare's wallet.
Sistare, who was in the front passenger seat, gave the suspect his wallet and the suspect fled. No one was injured in the incident.

Sanford PD Drug Agents Hard At Work

It appears that the drug agents at Sanford PD were hard at work again Weds. night when they raided a home at 515 Pineland St. Apparently the premises was used as an illegal bar. Donald Flack, 50, was arrested and is being held under numerous charges, including possession of stolen police equipment. The citizens of the Pineland St. area should have comfort knowing that the SPD is hard at work in attempts to make a better place for them to live. Good Job Guys!
Cumnock Road Man Held For Cannabis

John Jason Hall, 28, of 1007 Cumnock Road, Sanford, was arrested on 6-10-2009 for manufacturing Marijuana, maintaining a dwelling to store drugs, possession of Marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia after Lee County deputies discovered 17 Marijuana plants growing at his home. He was placed in the Lee County Jail under $6000.00 secured bond.
Lee County Deputy Accused of Fatally Shooting Husband
Harnett County deputies responded to 8 Bee Hive Lane in Broadway around 10:30pm on Weds. night to investigate a possible shooting. When they arrived, they found Michael Clark, 44, husband of Lee County Deputy, Angie Clark, deceased.
Investigators have not given a motive for the shooting. "The investigation has indicated that victim was shot by his wife, Angie Clark, age 40, of the same address," Harnett County authorities wrote in a news release Thursday. "There have been no charges filed in the case and no other information will be released at this time."
Michael Clark's body was sent to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Chapel Hill for an autopsy.
Sheriff Carter commented that Angie Clark has been a deputy in Lee County for about two and a half years and was on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. The Sheriff added that she has been a "very good employee."

Lee County Man Charged With Arson

Following an incident that occured on Sunday, Lee County sheriff's deputies arrested a man in connection with the burning of an outbuilding at 369 Kentyrewood Farm Road today.
Deputies were dispatched to the location at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday at the request of the Lee County Fire Marshal.
Authorities reportedly determined that the building had been intentionally burned by a neighbor, Donald Ray Stewart, 40, of 445 John Garner Road. Mr. Stewart was charged and placed into the Lee County Jail under $5,000 secured bond.
Meth Lab & Pot Plants Seized at Buckhorn Rd Residence

Two People have been arrested in connection with a Methamphetamine Lab that was seized on 5-27-2009 on Buckhorn Road. Earl Wayne Abernathy, 50, and Frankie Kelly Abernathy, 44, both of 1382 Buckhorn Road, were charged with Manufacturing Methamphetamine, possession of precursor chemicals and possession of drug paraphernalia. Both were released under $10,000.00 bond. Christopher Wayne Abernathy, 19, also of the home was charged with manufacturing Marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released under $5000.00 bond.

Deputies and Citizen Involved in Accident
While responding to assist another deputy that had stopped a suspect from a Vass bank robbery, a patrol vehicle driven by Lee County detective Van Holly collided with another vehicle, seriously injuring Helen Douglas. The accident occured on N.C. 87 in Harnett County. Ms. Douglas was taken to Cape Fear Hospital in Fayetteville with a fractured diaphragm and a collapsed lung. Detective Holly has been charged by the Highway Patrol with a stop light violation.
Lee County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Randall Butler stated that the detectives were en route to a location in the Cameron area of Harnett County where another detective had stopped a man initially suspected to be involved in a Vass bank robbery earlier in the day. That man was later found to be not involved in the robbery. The robbery happened at First Bank in Vass on Wednesday. Moore County authorities reported a white man with a white rag over his face robbed the bank and fled on foot. The third detective began following the vehicle matching the suspect's description as it crossed into Lee County from Moore County. He followed the vehicle into Harnett County before initiating the stop. The Moore County Sheriff's Office charged another man with the robbery Thursday.
Sheriff Carter has been in contact with the family and hopes that Ms. Douglas has a speedy recovery.

Sanford PD Arrests Two Teens For Shooting Spree

Kudos to the Sanford Police Dept for the arrests of two teenagers after a series of shootings Monday night. Thankfully no one was injured however one home owner did suffer damage to her home on Evergreen Street.
Charged in the shootings were Ricky Brown, 16, of 210 Linden Ave. and Taurean Tyrell Gunter, 18, of 427 Kenwood Trail, with five counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling and discharging a firearm inside the city limits.
SPD authorites said that Brown was brought to them on Tuesday by his mother. Gunter was charged later in the day.
The shootings took place at 424 Evergreen St. and 403 Dudley Ave. at 8:47 p.m. and 10:20 p.m. Monday, respectively. The alleged targets of the shootings were standing near those addresses, officers reported. SPD reported to have found at least a dozen casings in the scenes.
The shootings and arrests come shortly after a resident of Pineland Street which is directly behind Evergreen Street began complaining that his neighborhood had been terrorized by shootings into homes and vehicles over the past several years.
Gunter in particular has a lengthy criminal record, but a search of the state Department of Correction web site shows no time spent in prison.
Growing Operation Shut Down on Northview Drive

On 6-1-2009, Narcotics agents with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at 1014 Northview Drive, Sanford, and discovered 17 Marijuana plants growing on the property. Agents arrested Rocco Terrance Conner, 22, of the home and charged him with Manufacturing Marijuana, felony possession of Marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was placed in the Lee County Jail under $3000.00 secured bond.
